The President of the INPI/BR (Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property) presented, on 28.Aug.2011, the Institute’s Strategic Plan to reduce the patents backlog during the 31st International Congress on Intellectual Property, fostered by the Brazilian National Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI), in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The chances include, for instance, the establishment of the e-Patents system, which will allow the electronic filing of applications starting from 2012.

The president pointed out that the INPI/BR has undergone major changes in order to adapt to the new scenario of IP in the world, wherein the tendency is the continuous increase in the number of applications. The challenge, besides increasing examination capability, is to maintain the quality of the examination service in consistency with the ever growing sophistication of the technologies involved in patents.
