>[19.May.09] General - INPI defines new fees, services and discounts
Source: INPI/BR [Adapted]

As of 01.Jun.2009, the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) will implement new fees for previous and new services, as well as extend discounts to a wider group, which will include natural entities, micro and small-size enterprises and cooperatives defined by Law as such; research and educational institutes, non-profitable entities and government agencies.

There was an average increase of 24% in INPI services fees, but industrial designs will have a discount up to 60%, and the electronic filing of trademarks can have a reduction of fees of 25% when compared to paper filing.

The increase of fees is a result, among other factors, of INPI new status as an International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority and of the new services offered, such as the international search, international preliminary examination on patentability and the registration of integrated circuit topographies.
