>[24.Mar.09] Copyright – Simplified Software Registrations
Source: INPI/BR [Adapted]

As of 24.Mar.2009, the source code of the software to be registered may be presented in a CD, and not only in paper. In the future, the goal of the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) is to carry out the whole process electronically via the internet.

With the INPI’s new regulations, the software owner may save the source code in a PDF file, save it in CDs or DVDs and put them in a SEDEX (express mail) envelope. The use of such envelope guarantees confidentiality of the data. A copy of this material should be made. Subsequently, the formal documentation must be gathered and sent by air mail or taken directly to the Institute.

To ensure safety to the process, the INPI will also ask for the authorization of the software owner to copy the media and store the protected information in a data server. The department responsible for the registrations is the Division of Computer Programs Registration, which is linked to the General Coordination of Other Registrations of the Administration Office of Technology Contracts and Other Registrations of the Institute.
